The rhythm team of bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Akira Tana has long been among the most in-demand and prolific in jazz. Their collaboration in this group reflects shared musical values and expertise. The group emphasizes collective interplay as much, if not more, than solo prowess, and neither Reid nor Tana dominates the spotlight. The two-horn front line includes tenor/soprano saxophonist Dan Faulk and alto saxophonist/flutist Craig Bailey; they're solid, often exciting players who shy away from cliches and craft thorough, exacting statements. As you'd expect, Reid and Tana handle rhythm section duties smoothly, from backing and driving the ensemble to taking concise, delightful solos when necessary.
