The History
Soon after 9/11, many musicians that are part of the roster of Jazzcorner®,com and jazz industry people got together, and we decided to sell merchandise with a portion of the proceeds going to help a relief organization that was directly helping the victims and the families of 9/11. And Jazzcares.com was born. Within 2 months, we raised over $1,800 which we allocated to the Robin Hood Relief Fund. In January of 2002, Jazzcorner.com clients as well as many other musicians decided to donate a portion of their proceeds to Jazz Foundation of America. We temporarily closed the doors of Jazzcares.com, but continued to donate a minimum of a $1 to JFA through out regular secure shopping area at Jazzcorner.com. Our motto has always been:
WORKING/RECORDINGS MUSICIANS HELPING MUSICIANS IN NEED
After, Hurrican Katrina, we quickly got into full action mode to open Jazzcares once again. This time it will remain open permanently. The Jazz Foundation of America is directly providing help to musicians and their families, and help to make New Orleans truly NEW Orleans once more.
We believe that it is our obligation to help musicians less fortunate or in circumstances that make it difficult for them to support their families.
We also have always believed in unifying the jazz community, and here is your opportunity -- whether as a fan or involved with the music.
How It All Works
Each musician or creator of jazz related merchandise, decides how much they want to allocate to the organizations listed above. This information is confidential. All you need to do is send an email to jazzcaresfund@aol.com. You net the rest except for a small cc processing fee. We will put your CD, DVD, book or art or photos up and a link to your website. This is a win-win situation, you make money and you help a good cause.
For the fans, your name or organization will go under the supporters area. This is a win-win situation for you as well - you get a great product and your are contributing directly to the working musician and musicians in need.
